I simply love how my beard looks and smells. Everyone around me wonders how I maintain it. Well, it has not always been the same; I had to work on it. Like most men, I also knew only about beard oils, shampoos, and conditioners.
But having a well-groomed beard that not only looks good but smells nice requires something more than these basic beard care products.

Beard Butter Recipe
It’s my own beard butter recipe that you can make easily at home. I prefer using it as it helps me maintain my long beard and combats the effects of regular styling and blow drying.
I’ve specifically included Cocoa Butter in this beard butter recipe for its numerous benefits. I’ve not included Beeswax in this recipe because it makes the consistency thicker. This recipe is made with a whipping technique.

Beard Butter Ingredients
When I make my own beard butter, I carefully select ingredients to suit my beard’s needs. By adjusting the ingredients, you can tailor the texture, scent, and benefits to suit your specific preferences. Some of the key ingredients I use include:
Jojoba Oil – 20ml
Jojoba oil is a liquid wax extracted from the seeds of the jojoba plant. It’s renowned for its moisturizing properties, closely resembling the natural oils produced by our skin (sebum). This makes it an excellent conditioner for both the beard and the skin underneath, helping to reduce dryness and flakiness. Jojoba oil is also rich in vitamins E and B, which nourish and strengthen the hair, promoting healthy growth and adding a natural shine.
Shea Butter – 100g/3.5oz
Shea butter is a rich, creamy fat extracted from the nuts of the shea tree. It’s a staple ingredient in beard butter due to its intense moisturizing and softening properties. Shea butter is loaded with vitamins A and E, both of which are essential for skin health. It helps to soothe irritated skin, reduce inflammation, and repair damaged hair. The thick consistency of shea butter provides a protective barrier, locking in moisture and giving your beard a fuller, more voluminous appearance.
Cocoa Butter – 70g/2.5oz
Cocoa butter is derived from cocoa beans and is known for its high content of fatty acids, which deeply moisturize and nourish the skin and hair. It helps to prevent dryness and brittleness in the beard, making it softer and more manageable. Cocoa butter also has antioxidant properties, protecting the hair and skin from environmental damage. Its soothing properties can help alleviate itchiness and irritation, making it a great addition to any beard care routine.
Sweet Almond Oil – 10ml
Sweet almond oil is a light, non-greasy oil that is easily absorbed into the skin and hair. It is rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins A and E, and proteins, which help to strengthen and condition the beard. Sweet almond oil is particularly beneficial for preventing hair breakage and split ends, keeping the beard healthy and well-maintained. It also soothes dry, itchy skin, making it an excellent choice for those with sensitive skin.
Vitamin E Oil – 1g
Vitamin E oil is a powerful antioxidant that helps to protect the skin and hair from damage caused by free radicals and environmental stressors. It promotes healthy hair growth by repairing damaged hair follicles and improving blood circulation. In beard butter, vitamin E oil helps to extend the shelf life of the other oils and butters by preventing oxidation. It also adds a smooth, silky texture to the product, making it easier to apply.
Essential Oils – 10-20 drops
Essential oils are concentrated extracts from plants, known for their therapeutic properties and aromatic benefits. In beard butter, essential oils not only add a pleasant scent but can also provide various skin and hair benefits. For example, tea tree oil has antifungal and antibacterial properties, while lavender oil is soothing and calming. The choice of essential oils can be customized based on your preferences and desired effects, but they should always be used sparingly, as they are potent and can cause irritation if overused.
Beard Butter Recipe Ratio
While you’re trying this DIY beard butter recipe, make sure you follow the correct quantities of ingredients. Not following the correct beard butter recipe ratio could disturb the quality of homemade beard butter. Below you can find the beard butter recipe ratio of the ingredients.

- Cocoa Butter – 70g/2.5oz
- Sweet Almond Oil – 10ml

DIY Beard Butter Recipe With Cocoa Butter
There are different recipes for making beard butter at home. Not all of them use Cocoa Butter. However, if you add Cocoa Butter, it helps soften and smooth your beard and gives a pleasant scent. My beard butter recipe does have 70g/2.5oz of Cocoa Butter.
If you’re following any other recipe, you can add Cocoa Butter in it to get its benefits for your desired beard. However, make sure you do not disturb the overall ratio of the ingredients.
Beard Butter Recipe Without Beeswax
In the whipped beard butter recipe, you must whip all the ingredients in the end. You can whip the ingredients with the help of an electric beater or with a whisker.
The major difference between a regular beard butter recipe and a whipped beard butter recipe is that whipped beard butter is more creamy and light because of the whipping process.
